The GIA Library fields many questions each year on almost every topic related to gems and jewelry.

Some of the most frequent inquiries have to do with how gems travel from mine to marketplace and how gem and jewelry values are determined. We’ve compiled the reference guides below in response to these questions. They represent only a very small portion of the wealth of materials available for your research.

Appraisal Associations  - GIA Grading Reports provide an independent, objective assessments of gemstone quality. And while GIA does not determine values for gemstones or jewelry, there are a number of professional organizations that you can turn to for help.

Auction Houses – This is a partial list of well-known auction houses that specialize in gems and estate jewelry.

Pricing Guides – These popular guides will help you better understand how to determine the value of gemstones and jewelry.
